Cosmetic Updates for a Complete Kitchen Transformation

Cosmetic Updates for a Complete Kitchen Transformation

Although the majority of the projects we work on are an in-depth process involving meetings with the committee of adjustments, architectural planning, demolition and so forth, on occasion, we get called in by one of our partners to lend our expertise on a more cosmetic level.

Wowed by the results of her living room transformation, a Summerhill resident wanted to continue working with our interior partners at Homekin to update the entire first floor of her home. One of these spaces was the kitchen, which is where our team came in.

Although the kitchen had been recently updated, it featured dark cabinetry that clashed with our client’s soft and feminine aesthetic. The same could be said of the existing countertops, light fixtures, hardware and plumbing fixtures, which were void of personality and charm. Inspired by our work in another home in Rosedale, this client wanted to achieve a similar look but modified to work within the confines of her home and its particular layout.

After pulling out the countertops, we started by breathing new life into the cabinetry by painting them a soft white. To do this, we turned to Benjamin Moore’s best-selling OC-65, otherwise known as Chantilly Lace. This classic go-to white elicits images of fresh cotton and pure silk, which seemed fitting in this elegant home.

Painting cabinetry is a great solution for kitchens that are fundamentally up-to-date style-wise but require a fresh look. Time and time again we are amazed by how a simple change of colour or stain can radically update the look of a kitchen for a fraction of the cost and this kitchen was no exception.

Paint alone though, would have only done so much. A kitchen needs its jewelry! For hardware, we turned to one of our favourite fashion-forward sources, Buster + Punch and Brizo for the faucet. With these rich brassy tones against the Chantilly Lace cabinetry, the kitchen now feels warm and elevated.

For countertops, we went to Marble Trend and selected porcelain for a polished and timeless finish, that is also durable and suitable for a young family.

Last, the jewels on the crown are AERIN pendants from Visual Comfort for an understated hint of glamour.

Amongst all the soft blue hues, elegant patterns and supple textures, the transformation of this kitchen has created a seamless flow from the formal living and dining room through to the banquette and family room beyond, all designed by Homekin.
