As the second post in our two-part Mother’s Day series, we would like to introduce three more mothers and their children who, as a part of our community, have helped to shape our understanding of the concept of home!
Meet Miranda, Farah, Gabrielle and their children who, in a short Q + A, share their thoughts on motherhood and their plans for Mother’s Day…
MIRANDA
Meet Miranda! Miranda is a business owner and marketing trailblazer in her industry but first and foremost, she is a mother of two to 5-year-old Nash and 7-year-old Nevada. We met and got to know Miranda through the Homekin team, as they worked with her on the interior design of her family home…
What do you love most about motherhood?
I marvel at my kid’s fresh perspective and sense of wonder! Watching them experience things for the
first time, meet new people, and learn about themselves is amazing. Mothers also always talk about the unconditional love that comes with the job… it’s an amazing thing and something I didn’t understand until I experienced it.
What’s one of the biggest challenges of motherhood?
Understanding who my children are as individuals and finding the best way to foster and support their developing personalities so that they can be the best versions of themselves and above all else, good human beings!
FARAH
Meet Farah! Farah is both a lawyer and a nurse who works for a national healthcare company as SVP, Chief Legal, Privacy and Compliance Officer but her number one position is mom, to 7-year-old Grayson. Alongside our real estate partners, we have gotten to know Farah and her family through the purchase and sale of homes and, more recently, through the design and build process of a home they are excited to move into soon.
If you could return to those early days with Grayson, what advice would you give yourself?
Take time to be present and capture the memories. I look back on all my photos and videos from those early days and it takes me right back to those moments.
What’s the best thing about being a mom?
Seeing the world through Grayson’s eyes and enjoying his developing sense of humour. He keeps us laughing and makes life so much fun!
What does the ideal Mother’s Day look like for you?
As a working mom, finding balance is hard! For that reason, I simply hope to enjoy spending quality time with my family, including my mom.
GABRIELLE
Meet Gabrielle! Gabrielle is a copywriter and the Director of Content for both Urban Blueprint and our real estate and interior design partners. When she’s not typing away at her laptop, she can be found chasing after her two-year-old son, Jackson!
What’s your favourite thing to do with Jackson?
Jackson is an energetic, social butterfly who is not the least bit shy! For that reason, my husband and I have a lot of fun just taking him out with us. Whether it’s taking him to an exhibit at a museum or something as simple as running errands, we get such a kick out of watching him make friends, play and learn.
What advice do you have for new moms?
This too shall pass. With every stage, there are new challenges but they are fleeting and followed by incredible developments, milestones and happy memories.
How will you be spending this Mother’s Day?
Though motherhood has forced me to be a morning person, I’m not one by nature so I’d like to sleep in, if possible! Following that, an indulgent brunch would be nice, then a long walk with Jackson and my husband and a grand finale of takeout and a movie in the evening, when Jackson is fast asleep.
